CANNON COUNTY SCHOOLS

INSERVICE AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT

2014-2015

Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year!

We have planned several staff development/in-service opportunities for this year.  A teacher’s 200 day contract includes 5 required in-service days. We have provided for 3 required in-service days in the calendar, August 1, 4 and 5.  The two other in-service days are self-selected and may include Common Core training or other approved training. Additional days are contained in this letter as well as posted in the monthly newsletters as they become available. (Remember, any day that you are otherwise paid for, such as student days, parent-teacher conferences, PD days, coaching clinics, or college classes for credit are not acceptable for in-service by state guidelines.)

There are three days built in for professional development, August 29, 2014, November 4, 2014 and March 3, 2015. These are counted as student days (snow or stockpile days); therefore, they are required work days for teachers and cannot be counted as in-service.

Also included in the calendar are two teacher work days: August 7, 2014 and May 21, 2015. These are required work days (discretionary days) that teachers may use to work in their classrooms/schools on plan books, textbooks, permanent records, and other tasks related to your teaching (not coaching) assignment. Principals may plan brief staff meetings on these days as needed.

To help us with understanding the classification of the assigned days, the following guide will be used:

RI-Required In-service for all Teachers and Administrators

RIS-Required In-service for a Special Group of Teachers

RS-Required Meeting for a Special Group of Teachers (Not In-service)

RD-Required Discretionary Day for all Teachers and Administrators

RSD-Required Staff Development for all Teachers and Administrators (Not In-service)

OI-Optional In-service

Unless otherwise noted, all days will be 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
